Two unique frog species have been harbored at NNU since July 26, giving students invaluable experience researching and caring for these rare amphibians. Dr. John Cossel received the frogs from Kadoorie Farm & Botanic Garden in Hong Kong after they were confiscated from a cargo shipment.
Over the past several years, NNU’s Board of Trustees has discussed and considered the possibility of changing the university’s institutional nickname and mascot. President Joel Pearsall announced Northwest Nazarene University’s new mascot in chapel this morning.
During Homecoming & Family Weekend 2017, NNU will be hosting a Resident Director (RD) & Resident Assistant (RA) Reunion to honor their important role at NNU. From late night snacks and rides to the airport, to life-giving conversations and prayers, RDs and RAs were there to support students.

KidZone Learning Center of College Church of the Nazarene is providing child care for the Homecoming & Family Weekend—by pre-reservation only—for alumni and friends attending events. Care is available on Friday, Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 11 from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Come reconnect with classmates and friends at your reunion gathering and dinner during Homecoming and Family Weekend. This year’s reunions are for the classes of 1972, 1977, 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997, 2002, 2007 and 2012.
The Center for the Study of Market Alternatives will host speaker Will Lathrop of the International Justice Mission on Monday, October 23. Lathrop is a field officer in Uganda where he defends widows and orphans. This event is free and open to the public.
Visitors to The Compassion Experience will have the opportunity to step into the true stories of children growing up in the developing world, and walk with them through their journey from poverty to a life transformed through Compassion International and the local church. The exhibit will be open October 5–8 in the Wiley Learning Center parking lot.
Alumna Geri Shaw celebrates her 100th birthday on Wednesday, October 5. Originally from Minnesota, she attended NNC after her family moved to Meridian, Idaho. “NNU will help you find what your direction should be,” she shared.
NNU is pleased to announce Steven Emerson as Vice President for Finance & Operations. In this role, he will provide leadership, oversight and management of all financial and operational affairs of the university.
